David Smith photo

David is a freelance educational consultant and Director of Education Development Ltd. He has worked in a variety of educational settings, schools, sixth form colleges, tertiary colleges, further education and the university sector in the early 1990s at the Institute of Education, University of London as a Development Officer in the Post-16 Education Centre.

Since working independently David has worked for a variety of national and regional bodies and organisations. The Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA) on performance measure and coherent programmes of study post 16, for Edexcel on developing the body's BTEC qualifications framework, for the LSDA on various projects including Excellence Challenge developments, student advice and guidance networks, and credit based curriculum developments.

For the LSDA David has written four publications with Tony Tait, Sharon Moore and Gillian Frankland: Curriculum 2000+1, Curriculum 2000, innovations, opportunity and change, Curriculum 2000+2, Curriculum 2000: Making and Impact. He also regularly writes for the LSDA's Increased Flexibility Support Programme's Newsletter. He is currently the London Regional Activities Coordinator for the LSDA's Increased Flexibility Support Programme and was recently a Regional Trainer for the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) roll out of Skills for Life Learning Materials. He is also a Consultant working for the Government Office for London (GOL) and Government Office for the South East (GOSE) supporting their work on Work Related Learning.

David has also worked in partnership with Strategic Marketing Ltd, Cardiff, on two projects in Wales; Modern Skills Diploma for Adults (MSDA) Evaluation for Education and Learning Wales (ELWa) and engaging adults and young people in education, training and learning for the Rhondda Cynon Taff Community Consortium for Education and Training (CCET). He is currently undertaking a longitudinal evaluation of an European Social Fund (ESF) funded Employability Skills Project for County Durham Business and Learning Partnership.

Most recently David has started work with the LSDA in supporting the development of a national Credit Framework in conjunction with the national Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and QCA.
