Jeff Alterman

Jeff is a freelance consultant who has worked in Post-16 Education since 1970, as a lecturer, senior curriculum manager and, prior to consultancy, as a Head of MIS in a large FHE college.

Since 1999, Jeff has gained extensive experience supporting providers across the post-16 sector. He has worked primarily as a Quality Improvement Consultant for the Learning Skills Network (LSN - formerly LSDA). His work has focused primarily on improving providers’ data collection, information processes and knowledge management so that they achieve sound evidence-based course / programme reviews and SARs. (Jeff was co-author with Jane Owen of the LSDA Publication “Hitting the Target” in 2003).

Jeff is well-placed to support providers in matters related to the Framework for Excellence (FfE) and Peer Review and Development (PRD).

Assignments have included: facilitating an East of England LSC peer review project (LSN) group of 3 Work-Based Learning (WBL) providers; support and development training for 4 FE colleges (LSN) in Hertfordshire LSC on New Measures of Success and the Framework for Excellence; delivery at Aspiring for Excellence event of a workshop on effective use of WBL data for FfE (LSC Sussex); research commissioned by LSC (RCU) at National LSC on review and rationalisation of the Learning Aims Database (LAD) in context of the Vocational Qualifications Review Programme (VQRP) and the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF); staff training for a University with FE provision in developing rigour of its SAR; support with creation of data analysis for OFSTED Inspection at large “Outstanding” FE College (AOC); input at fe Sussex “Preparing for Inspection - Support Workshops” on business support functions in the Self-Assessment Report (SAR); a member of a “Mock” Inspection team at large FE College providing data analysis and support to the team (AOC).

Jeff has also provided support and training to curriculum managers in the use of curriculum performance management tools such as ProAchieve and Goldmine and use of LSC Provider Gateway and the Learner Achievement Tracker (LAT).
