Mike Cooper BA (Combined Hons) PGCE

Mike is a freelance educational consultant and an Associate with Education Development Ltd. He has worked in a variety of educational settings: colleges, schools, the voluntary sector, distance learning and in a sector-wide agency.

Most recently, he was the LSDA’s Regional Director for the South East of England, covering the full spectrum of its research, development, quality improvement and programme work.

Mike founded, joined and chaired many strategic regional groups. He is a facilitator/interlocutor and has addressed several major national and regional conferences. Mike regularly contributed to LSDA’s monthly Briefing bulletin, and to several of its research reports. In addition, he created and ran a regular, free, open-access news and comment e-bulletin service. This service continues from 2006 as an independent enterprise, sponsored by a consortium of national and regional bodies.

He has also written for the Education section of The Guardian, and for the Times Educational Supplement; as well as helping to create a distance-learning course on A-Level English Language and Literature for the National Extension College. Mike worked over for both the AEB (AQA) and OCR as a senior examiner, moderator, scrutineer, presenter and trainer, in a number of AS and A-level syllabuses.

Mike was born and brought up in the United States, going to U.S. public (i.e., state) secondary schools in Washington, D.C. and Manhattan, where he graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1972. He then came to the UK for his higher education, and has lived and worked in the UK since that time.
